Sabin Rai was born on February 5, 1974, in Dharan, eastern part of Nepal and has huge fan based in Nepal, India and the Nepalese diaspora abroad. He has been dubbed the Bryan Adams of Nepal due to his similar husky voice with the Canadian singer/songwriter. The song which catapulated him into overnight sensation is "Komal Tyo Timro". He regularly tours around the world including Hong Kong, UK, US and Canada.This gifted singer's very popular songs are Namuna, Aafno katha.

Robin Tamang

Robin Tamang is arguably the biggest rock star in Nepal. Initially, he started out with Robin and Looza. Later, he formed a new band, The New Revolution, by handpicking each member. Five albums already under his belt, he is coming out with his sixth studio album Hamro Desh. Living got candid with Robin Tamang and tried to spill some of his secrets.

What do you like being called, a rock star or a musician?
I like being called a singer/songwriter.

What do you enjoy more, singing or playing guitar?
I enjoy both. I write my songs while playing guitar. If I have to pick one, singing would be it.

Who has been the biggest influence in your career?
My family. My brothers and sisters used to play music and I wanted to be like them.

Do you do anything apart from music?
I am a father. (Laughs). I look after my children. Money wise, I am in the restaurant business.

Who is your favorite singer/band? Nepali and International?
In Nepal, there are several. It would be unfair to pick one. In international music, I am from the old school. I like Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens.

If you could be someone else for one day, who would you be?
I would be the PM of Nepal. There is so much to do here. If I take charge, I’ll try to give Nepal a better direction.

If you could change something from your past life, what would that be?
I wouldn’t change a thing. I wouldn’t have become what I am now if I change anything. I would’ve become a boring engineer.

Which one’s better, Looza or The New Revolution?
There is no comparison. They have completely different attitudes and different direction.

Tell us one secret of yours.
I am very shy. Ha-ha. When I get up on stage, that’s a different story altogether.

Which is your favorite movie?
I am more into science fiction. I liked Narnia. I like horrors as well.

Do you watch Nepali movies?
No. I don’t understand it. They are very different from real life.

Which is your favorite song?
Keta Keti. Because it’s about the youths of Nepal. They lack so many things like playground, love, schools.

What do you watch on TV?
I watch Discovery, Animal Planet, National Geographic Channel, BBC, and CNN.

One thing that you would love to own?
My own recording studio. Then I can do whatever I want. I can be creative anytime.

What party would you love to gatecrash?
The tea party organized by the politicians. (Laughs). I want to see what actually goes on inside.

Do you have a pet animal?
Yea, I got two dogs. Balu and Spot.

If you could become the Prime Minister of Nepal, what is one thing that you would change?
I would change the education system of Nepal. The public schools here are like stables. I would also improve the health sector. And, I would give everyone electricity and water.

What would you do if you knew that you’re dying tomorrow?
I’ll make sure that my children are looked after and they are secure financially.

Do you have any bad habit?
I have no bad habits as such. I would like to quit cigarettes though.

3 most beautiful women in the world?
My two daughters and the mother of my daughters. (Laughs).
